Apple’s relationship with India has been evolving, one calculated step at a time. From setting up local manufacturing in 2017 to launching its [first physical stores in Mumbai](https://www.techloy.com/apple-retail-store-india/) and Delhi last year, the company has been steadily expanding its presence in one of the world's largest smartphone markets.

Now, Apple is adding another piece to the puzzle—the Apple Store app.

The app, now available for download on the Indian App Store, promises a more direct way for customers to browse, customize, and purchase Apple products. It offers features like personalized recommendations, device engravings in eight languages (including Hindi), and Mac configurations, along with access to Apple Specialists, flexible delivery and pickup options.

Apple [says](https://www.apple.com/in/newsroom/2025/01/apple-launches-apple-store-app-in-india/) customers can also explore its financing plans and trade-in offers, which could make it easier to upgrade devices without relying on third-party retailers like Flipkart.

Beyond retail, Apple has been ramping up local iPhone production in the country. with India now accounting for [14% of global output](https://www.techloy.com/india-now-accounts-for-14-percent-of-apples-total-iphone-production/)—up from just 1% in 2021\. According to *Bloomberg,* Apple assembled $14 billion worth of iPhones in India in the country's fiscal year thanks to a partnership between [Foxconn](https://www.techloy.com/tag/foxconn/) and [Tata Group](https://www.techloy.com/tag/tata-group/).

But the fire at Tata’s Hosur plant in late September 2024 disrupted component supply, potentially reducing India’s overall iPhone production by 15%.

Overall, with plans to open four additional retail locations in Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi-NCR and Mumbai, Apple seems set on establishing a more direct connection with Indian consumers while navigating a market that has long been driven by competitive pricing and strong third-party distribution networks.

However, as Apple aligns India with its global retail approach, the Store app is likely another layer in its evolving strategy—one that continues to adapt to the realities of the Indian market.
