Blockchain tech startup Wayru raises $1.96 million in seed funding

Wayru, a blockchain technology startup based in South America has raised $1.96 million in its seed funding round led by Borderless Capital, a blockchain VC firm with participation from others.

  • The funding will be used to provide affordable internet access through blockchain technology, the startup claims.
  • Wayru is providing people-owned and operated decentralised internet networks using fibre, wireless mesh, unlicensed spectrum and blockchain.
  • Launched less than a year ago, the startup connects thousands of people daily on its first node deployed in South American low-income communities.
  • BigBrain, Meld, LVT, Algorand Foundation, Lonely, Cogitent, Pulsar, Ferrum Network, 7 'OK, AI Goanna DAO, HNT Fund, SNACKLUB, and five angel investors participated in the round.
