Elon Musk overtakes Barack Obama as most followed person on Twitter

Elon Musk has surpassed former U.S. President Barack Obama as the most followed person on Twitter. As of the time of writing this post, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO has 133,068,709 followers, while Obama has 133,042,819 followers, according to their Twitter profiles.

Musk's acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion in 2022 has no doubt contributed to his skyrocketing follower count.

Musk's Twitter account is known for its eclectic mix of content, from sharing memes to engaging with his followers on important decisions. He has previously conducted polls on whether or not former U.S. President Donald Trump should be allowed back on the platform, as well as whether he should step down as CEO of Twitter.

In contrast, Obama mainly uses his account for professional purposes, such as promoting important causes and highlighting his work as a former president. Pop stars Justin Bieber and Katy Perry occupy the third and fourth most-followed spots, respectively.
