# CHART: European smartphone market suffers 16% YoY decline in Q3 2022

The European smartphone market continued to suffer from a global economic slowdown and ongoing geopolitical tensions, with shipments declining by 16% year-on-year in Q3 2022, according to the latest research from *Counterpoint.*

However, Apple’s iPhone 14 launch and a significant push by Xiaomi and realme in Russia helped shipments to grow by 4% compared to Q2 2022.

**Samsung** maintained leadership in the European smartphone market despite a double-digit YoY shipment decrease. in Q3 2022

**Xiaomi** overtook Apple as Europe’s second largest vendor thanks to significant growth in Russia, where the OEM looks to capitalise on Samsung and Apple’s official absence.

**Apple** shipment declined YoY as supply constraints of its new iPhone 14 series caused by [coronavirus lockdowns in China](https://www.techloy.com/china-iphone-plant-lockdown/) delayed some shipments into Q4\. Although its market share grew 1%, the brand lost the second place to Xiaomi.

**realme** also posted strong gains in Russia and overtook **OPPO** as Europe’s fourth largest smartphone vendor.
