Gabon is said to be investing 150 billion CFA francs ($277 million) on its fibre optic telecoms network to improve digital connections over the next three years, reports **Reuters*.

Citing the country’s minister of communication and digital economy, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-NZE, the news publication says the first step of the project — which links Libreville to Franceville — has already been completed, with the second half of the project expected to connect the north of Gabon.

The country has already awarded the contract to Korea telecom, after a tender process, although it is not clear when the project would be completed.

Upon completion, it is expected that the fibre network would improve digital connections in a country where 90% of people already have access to the internet on mobile phones, according to the minister.
