Google reportedly lays off 453 employees in India

Google has reportedly laid off 453 employees across various departments in India.

CEO Sundar Pichai in a mail sent to affected employees said he takes “full responsibility for the decisions that led us here” and added that the job cuts were made in a bid to act decisively as the company's growth slowed.

This layoff comes after Google’s parent Alphabet Inc announced that it would be cutting 12,000 employees or 6% of its staff globally. It is however yet to be confirmed if the sacking of 453 employees includes the 12,000 job cuts or if there has been a new round of layoffs.

Last year, the microblogging platform laid off 90% of its staff in the country as part of global headcount reductions, leaving only a dozen on the payroll.
