# Japan's Hitachi to hire 30,000 tech workers, amid a global wave of layoffs

Japanese industrial group Hitachi has plans to hire 30,000 people skilled in the field of digital transformation over the next three years, a sharp contrast from U.S. information technology giants such as Twitter and Meta that are cutting their workforce, a report from *Nikkei Asia* says.

This comes at a time when Big Techs such as [Amazon](https://www.techloy.com/amazon-to-layoff-thousands-of-its-employees-this-week/), [Meta](https://www.techloy.com/meta-to-layoff-11000-employees/) and [Twitter](https://www.techloy.com/elon-musk-lay-off-twitter-staff/), are [laying off employees](https://www.techloy.com/a-wave-of-massive-layoffs-rattle-the-global-technology-industry/) to reduce operational costs amid a turbulent global tech economy.

The hiring which is set to happen over the next three years is part of Hitachi's plans to raise its digital transformation staff on a consolidated basis to 98,000 by March 2025, up 31,000 from the end of fiscal 2021\. 

The company has also set aside 500 billion yen ($3.69 billion) for strategic investment, primarily in the digital field, over the coming three years.
