# How to Change the Screen Timeout in Windows 11

Ever gotten up from your desk, only to come back after a few seconds and find your [PC](https://www.techloy.com/tag/pc/) screen already off? I’ve certainly been there. 

Between working on a project or reading long articles, having the display cut out too soon (or not soon enough) disrupts my flow. Thankfully, [Windows 11](https://www.techloy.com/tag/windows-11/) lets you customize display timeout settings easily. 

Let's discuss several methods to do it. 

## **Steps to Adjust Screen Timeout via Settings**

### **Step 1: Right-click the Start button on the taskbar and select "Settings" from the displayed options**

### **Step 2: On the Home tab, select "Power & battery"**

### **Step 3: Now, expand the Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts section**

### **Step 4: Under the Plugged in section, click the drop-down beside "Turn my screen off after", then select a preferred time you wish your display to go off when inactive. Do the same for the On battery section**

## **Steps to Adjust Screen Timeout Through the Control Panel**

### **Step 1: Click the Start button, search for "Control Panel", and select the Control Panel app from the results**

### **Step 2: In the Control Panel, select "Hardware and Sound"**

### **Step 3: Now, click "Power Options"**

### **Step 4: Select "Change plan settings" next to your active power plan.**

### **Step 5: Under the On battery option, click the "Turn off the display" drop-down and select a preferred time you wish your PC to go off when inactive. Do the same for the Plugged in option**
