# How to Hide Caller ID on iPhone and Android devices

We’ve all been there: you need to make a call, but you don’t want the other person to have your number. Maybe you're calling about a job posting, inquiring about a service, or even just leaving an anonymous message. 

In these situations, you might prefer to keep your personal contact details private. Whether it’s for privacy, safety, or just avoiding awkward follow-ups, hiding your caller ID empowers you with essential control. It achieves this by enabling you to make 'truly anonymous calls' – calls where your personal phone number is simply not transmitted to the recipient's device. This simple act provides a significant layer of privacy and control over who has access to your direct contact information.

Here's how you can do it on both [iPhone](https://www.techloy.com/tag/apple-iphone/) and [Android](https://www.techloy.com/tag/android/) devices:

## On iPhone: 

### Using Phone Settings:

### Step 1: Open the **Settings* app*

### Step 2: Scroll down to apps and tap on ***Phone***

### Step 3: Select ***Show My Caller ID***

### Step 4: Toggle off the switch next to ***Show My Caller ID***

### For Specific Calls:

Dial the prefix #31# before the phone number you wish to call. For example, to call (123) 456-7890, dial #31# 123 456 7890.

## On Android: 

### Using Phone App Settings:

### Step 1: Open the *Phone app* and tap the **Menu** icon (three dots) and select ***Settings***

### Step 2: Tap on ***Calls*** or ***Calling Accounts***

### Step 3: Select ***Additional Settings*** or ***More Settings***

### Step 4: Tap on **Caller ID**

### Step 5: Choose **Hide number**
