Spam calls are the worst, right? Whether it’s telemarketers, scammers, or fraudsters, they always seem to call at the worst times. Recently, I got one of those robotic telemarketing calls—totally annoying and completely unnecessary. Luckily, you can take several measures to prevent this from happening again. 

Over the last couple of years, many Nigerians have become victims of spam calls, with Nigeria being ranked among the top 20 countries globally affected by spam calls and SMS in 2017 and 2019 by [*Truecaller*](https://www.techloy.com/tag/truecaller/). 

However, effective solutions to protect yourself exist. This guide will walk you through proven methods to eliminate spam calls and protect yourself from their disruptive and potentially harmful effects.

## Use Built-In Call Blocking Features on Your Phone – How to block numbers manually

### **Step 1: Open the phone app on your mobile device and click on *Recents***

## Using the Block Spam Calls feature in the Google Phone app:

### Step 1: Open the Google Phone app on your mobile device and tap the three dots in the top right-hand corner

Install popular call-blocking apps such as Truecaller. Truecaller is a smartphone app that identifies callers, blocks spam, and helps you manage your communication.

1. Reporting spam numbers to your mobile network provider: You can contact your network's customer care line directly, either by calling them or using their online portal, and provide the spam number you want to report
2. Reporting to regulatory bodies like the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC): You can also report through the NCC toll-free number 622, or file a complaint on the NCC consumer portal if your provider did not resolve the issue.
