Recently, there has been a rising adoption of AI in various industries, spurred on by the launch of the ChatGPT chatbot from [OpenAI](https://www.techloy.com/tag/openai/) last November and it is near palpable.

This trend has raised concerns over its potential impact on employment, with a recent [study report by Goldman Sachs](https://www.techloy.com/generative-ai-could-replace-300-million-jobs-says-report/) predicting that generative AI could potentially impact up to 300 million jobs globally. And now IBM CEO Arvind Krishna told *Bloomberg* that roughly 7,800 jobs in the company could be replaced by Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the near future.

Krishna pointed out that non-customer-facing roles, which account for about 26,000 workers in IBM, could see 30% of those jobs being replaced by AI and automation over the next five years.

IBM's decision underpins the company's strategy to cut costs and enhance efficiency through automation. This move also highlights a growing trend among big tech companies in Silicon Valley and many other big corporations to [implement similar strategies of automating repetitive tasks](https://www.techloy.com/tech-companies-integrating-chatgpt-style-generative-ai-technology/) to shore up resources and remain competitive.
