# India is battling with a cybercrime surge, as malware attacks soared by 31% in 2022

While the rest of the world witnesses a decline in malware attacks, India remains a hotbed for cybercrime as it faces a surge in cyberattacks.

A recently unveiled [report about cyber threats](https://www.sonicwall.com/2023-cyber-threat-report/) has revealed the alarming reality of the country's cybersecurity landscape. In the past year alone, India experienced a staggering 31% increase in malware attacks, showcasing the relentless determination of cybercriminals.

But that's not all. 

Intrusion attempts rose by 10%, while ransomware attacks witnessed an astonishing 53% surge compared to the previous year. The report also revealed a shocking 116% spike in crypto-jacking attacks and an eye-opening 84% rise in IoT attacks, painting a vivid picture of the digital battlefield out there.

Experts point to two key factors driving this unsettling trend: the ever-evolving strategies of threat actors and their relentless exploration of new avenues for success. Among these emerging threats, IoT vulnerabilities and the rise of crypto-jacking have become potent weapons in the hands of cybercriminals.

In light of these escalating risks, cybersecurity experts emphasize the urgent need for organizations to adopt threat-informed strategies.
