# Kenyan edutainment startup Kukua raises $6 million in Series A round

[Kukua,](https://kukua.me/) a Kenya and London-based educational entertainment startup that created the first African animated superhero franchise, tagged ['Super Sema'](https://www.supersema.com/) has raised $6 million in its Series A funding round.

- The fund will be invested in building IP-focused edutainment for children through the new Super Sema original content, licensing, merchandising, and publishing.
- Founded in 2018, Kukua is built on the idea of an animated superhero franchise, especially for children in Africa.
- Tencent and Alchimia co-led the funding round, with participation from EchoVC, Firstminute Capital, and Auxxo Female Catalyst.
