The smart glasses market has seen notable attempts like Snapchat's [Spectacles](https://www.techloy.com/snaps-new-ar-spectacles-will-cost-99-for-a-monthly-subscription/) and Google Glass, but Meta’s Ray-Ban Stories have stood out as the product that’s resonated most with consumers.

These stylish smart glasses—launched in partnership with EssilorLuxottica—offer audio commands, discreet cameras, and AI-powered voice assistants, making them a surprise hit since their 2023 refresh.

Now, rumors suggest the next generation of Ray-Ban Meta glasses could feature built-in displays. If reports are accurate, these updated glasses, expected in 2025, will include a small display for notifications and responses from Meta’s AI assistant.

This feature would mark a significant leap from the current model, which lacks any visual interface. While it won’t yet rival the immersive augmented reality (AR) experiences of [Apple’s Vision Pro](https://www.techloy.com/tag/apple-vision-pro/) or Meta’s own Orion prototype, the addition of a display could move Meta closer to its vision of AR glasses as the next big computing platform.

The timing is also strategic. Meta may face increasing competition from [Google](https://www.techloy.com/tag/google/), which plans to release its own smart glasses in 2025 powered by its new Android XR operating system. Google’s glasses are also rumored to feature displays similar to Meta’s upcoming Ray-Ban model but with tighter integration into the [Android](https://www.techloy.com/tag/android/) ecosystem. This rivalry underscores the growing momentum in the wearables market, which saw a 73% increase in shipments in 2024.

As the competition heats up with [Samsung](https://www.techloy.com/tag/samsung/) and Apple also rumored to be working on their own smart glasses, Meta’s strategy seems clear: establish dominance in lightweight, fashionable wearables while refining its AR capabilities behind the scenes.

Whether these rumored updates to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses can maintain their appeal in an increasingly crowded market will depend on balancing cutting-edge features with consumer-friendly design and pricing.
