Microsoft and OpenAI reportedly planning a $100 billion data center project

With the rapid adoption of generative artificial intelligence technology, there is now a very high demand for AI data centres that are capable of handling more advanced tasks than traditional data centres.

Recognising this, Microsoft and OpenAI are teaming up to work on plans for a data centre project that, according to The Information, citing a source, could cost as much as $100 billion.

The proposed project is said to be a five-phase plan and would include an artificial intelligence supercomputer called "Stargate" which would launch in 2028, and would largely be financed by Microsoft, the report said.
