# Twitter lays off 10% of its workforce

Twitter has laid off at least 200 employees, or about 10% of its workforce, in the latest round of job cuts by the social media network, per a *Reuters* report.

This latest round of job cuts is at least the eighth round of job cuts by the social network since Elon Musk took over in late October as he continues to pare back its workforce number by at least 70% from 7500 to roughly 2,000 in an effort to offset a decline in revenue due to reduced advertisement spending.

The microblogging platform had kicked off its first of many layoffs immediately after Musk's $44 billion acquisition in early November last year when it laid off about 50% (3,700 employees) workforce in a cost-cutting measure.

According to a *New York Times* report, citing people familiar with the matter, this latest round of job cuts impacted product managers, data scientists and engineers who worked on machine learning and site reliability, which helps keep Twitter's various features online. The monetization infrastructure team was also not spared as it was reduced to fewer than eight people from thirty.
