How artificial intelligence is impacting our lives

The rave of surrounding artificial intelligence has taken the tech world by storm. After several decades marked by sporadic dormancy, AI technology has progressed to model and algorithm-based machine learning focused on replicating human perception, reasoning and stereotypes. Now AI has re-taken centre stage like never before — and it won’t cede the spotlight anytime soon.

The buzz around AI in the past week is palpable, with releases like ChatGPT – an AI chatbot that has shown a lot of promise, with some even calling it a successor to Google. It has only been in beta since December 1 and has already raked in more than a million users in 5 days.

ChatGPT unlike the Google search engine offers internet users a single answer based on its own search and synthesis of that information. The powerful language-generating system has been trained on millions of websites to glean information with the skill of holding a humanlike conversation.
