Twitter's paid blue tick subscription delayed till after US mid-term elections

Twitter has said it will hold off on the release of the new revamped version of the Twitter Blue feature until after the mid-term elections in the US.

This report comes just days before the U.S. midterm elections as some fear that there might be attempts by parody or unofficial fan accounts to steer the Tuesday elections.

The firm had planned to roll out the $8 subscription feature earlier and had even started testing the new features on the iOS app store on Saturday.

The app update note stated that users will now have to pay $7.99 per month for the company's Twitter Blue subscription to receive the checkmark on the platform, “just like the celebrities, companies, and politicians you already follow”, but has since been removed.

The move by Twitter was aimed at fighting attempts of verified users impersonating notable political or other government figures, or news outlets claiming false results that may discourage others from voting.

Twitter has however confirmed that the Twitter Blue feature with additional capabilities for its subscribers to get priority in replies, mentions and search, and post long videos and audio is “coming soon”, but the official launch date is still unknown.

Musk had initially told employees working on the project that they need to meet a deadline of November 7th to launch the feature or they will face the sack, according to The Verge.
