Twitter is “holding off” the relaunch of its paid account verification plan over continued concerns of impersonation on the social media platform.

In a tweet posted on Monday, Twitter CEO, Elon Musk said that the company would be "holding off relaunch of Blue Verified until there is high confidence of stopping impersonation."

"Will probably use different colour checks for organizations than individuals," he added.

This comes after Musk said last week that Twitter would be "[punting the relaunch](https://www.techloy.com/twitter-to-revive-end-to-end-encryption-for-direct-messages/) of the $8-per-month Twitter Blue subscription to November 29th to make sure that it is rock solid". His statement on Monday however suggests that the timeline would be longer.

The $8/month Twitter Blue service was initially [rolled out](https://www.techloy.com/twitter-blue-subscribers-will-pay-8-per-month/) in early November shortly after Musk's Twitter takeover but was rolled back after it led to a wave of accounts impersonating celebrities by changing the name on their account and paying to get a blue tick next to it.

It then launched a [grey 'official' badge](https://www.techloy.com/twitter-rolls-out-another-check-mark/) feature to identify original accounts belonging to public figures and major businesses to address the problem, but "killed" it shortly afterwards.

As initial measures didn't deter the several authentic-looking fake accounts with the blue checkmark, Twitter was forced to suspend the new paid checkmark system and reinstate the grey 'official' badge on accounts belonging to public figures and major businesses.
