WhatsApp announces new security features to protect users

Ever had your WhatsApp account hacked on any occasion – trust me it is no fun. Being a victim of hacking can be a stressful and frustrating experience.

This is why WhatsApp has implemented a set of security features that will provide users with extra layers of privacy and security and an overall secure messaging experience on its platform in a new blog post on Thursday.

The features which include Account Protect, Device Verification, and Automatic Security Codes, aim to protect users' accounts in the case of unauthorized access attempts and account compromisation or to avert such attempts altogether.

The Account Protect feature provides extra security when switching to a new device by verifying the user's identity through a prompt on the old device. This feature can help alert users of an unauthorized attempt to move their account to another device.

The other feature Device Verification adds checks to authenticate the account and protect automatically against device compromisation from mobile malware with no action needed from users.

Lastly, the Automatic Security Codes feature automatically verifies secure connections for private and confidential conversations. Users can manually click on the Encryption tab on the app, to verify right away that their personal conversation is with an intended recipient.
