# YouTube is Testing AI-Generated Backgrounds for Shorts

[Google](https://www.techloy.com/tag/google/) has been making a lot of AI upgrades to its products recently. This time, it is testing a new YouTube Shorts feature called "Dream Screen" that will allow users to have AI-generated images and videos as their videos’ backgrounds.

This comes after YouTube introduced [shopping features in April to help boost creators' earnings on the platform](https://www.techloy.com/youtube-introduces-new-shopping-features-to-help-boost-creators-earnings/). Interestingly, the new "Dream Screen" feature would be the second time that YouTube is trying out a feature release with creators in mind this year, with the shopping features being the first.

Essentially, the Dream Screen creates a virtual green screen background for Shorts creators, allowing them to generate a background of their choice, which could be images or animations, just by typing it into the tool.

Right now, Google is rolling out this feature to a small number of users, allowing them to generate images and videos using text prompts, after which they can then set the AI-generated media as the backgrounds of their Shorts.

To check if the Dream Screen feature is available to you, you can go to the Green Screen Menu in the [YouTube](https://www.techloy.com/tag/youtube/) Shorts Creator. If you are lucky enough to be one of the users, you can then proceed with typing English prompts to generate relevant green screen content.

Google, however, has not given an official statement as to whether it will be releasing this feature officially to over 62 million YouTube creators worldwide per data from *DemandSage*, but what we know is that it is planning to roll out the feature to more creators later this year.
