Apple today unveiled the next generation of its AirTag item tracker, offering stronger tracking performance and better usability while keeping the same price as before. The updated AirTag builds on Apple’s Find My ecosystem with expanded range, louder alerts, improved precision finding, and new features for shared tracking.
“The next generation of AirTag — the bestselling item finder — is even easier to locate with more powerful Precision Finding, a longer Bluetooth range, and a louder speaker,” Apple said in its official announcement.
What’s New in the Updated AirTag
Expanded Finding Range & Better Precision
Apple says the new AirTag uses its second-generation Ultra-Wideband chip — the same chip in iPhone 17 and Apple Watch 11 — to enhance how far and how accurately the device can be found. According to the company:
“Precision Finding guides users through haptic, visual, and audio feedback to their lost items from up to 50% farther away than the previous generation.”
The device also comes with an updated Bluetooth radio, which extends the effective range at which items can be located, making it easier to track things that are farther away or in crowded spaces.
Louder Alerts
The new AirTag comes with a redesigned internal speaker that Apple says is about 50% louder than the previous model, allowing users to hear the location chime from up to twice as far as before when searching nearby.
Find From Your Wrist
For the first time, Precision Finding isn’t limited to the iPhone. Apple says users with compatible Apple Watches, specifically Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, can now find AirTags directly from their wrist without needing their phone.
Privacy
Apple reiterated that the AirTag does not store location data or location history on the device itself. All communications with the Find My network are end-to-end encrypted, so only the owner can access the location data. The company also maintains protections against unwanted tracking, including rotating Bluetooth identifiers and cross-platform alerts when an unknown AirTag is detected nearby.
Pricing and Availability
The new AirTag is available immediately for ordering on Apple’s online store and Apple Store app:
- 29 for a single AirTag
- $99 for a four-pack
- Free engraving on apple.com and the Apple Store app
It requires an iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 / iPadOS 26 or later and supports enhanced finding on newer Apple Watch models. Apple says the updated AirTag retains compatibility with all existing AirTag accessories.
