Apple is reportedly building display-free smart glasses, similar in concept to the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses from Meta Platforms, a new report by Bloomberg claims. Internally code-named N50, the glasses are expected to arrive around late 2026 or early 2027, with shipments following later in 2027.
Rather than projecting graphics into your field of view, these glasses are expected to rely on cameras, microphones, speakers, and a tightly integrated voice assistant to deliver a hands-free, AI-powered experience that works in tandem with the iPhone.

Per the report, Apple isn’t just testing one look; it’s testing at least four different frame styles. According to Mark Gurman, the designs range from a large rectangular frame similar to classic Wayfarers to slimmer rectangular styles and even oval or circular options in both large and small sizes.
Apple is also experimenting with multiple colours like black, ocean blue, and light brown and using higher-end acetate materials to give the glasses a more premium feel than typical plastic frames, Gurman adds.
There’s also an interesting design twist around the camera system. Unlike Meta’s circular camera design, Apple is said to be testing vertically orientated oval lenses surrounded by lights, something meant to make the glasses instantly recognisable. Internally, Apple reportedly calls this goal the “icon”, the same philosophy that made AirPods and the Apple Watch visually distinct at a glance.
Functionally, the glasses will handle everyday tasks: taking photos and videos, answering calls, listening to notifications, playing music, and interacting with a much smarter Siri expected to arrive with iOS 27. The real advantage, as always with Apple, will likely be how seamlessly this all ties into the iPhone ecosystem for editing, sharing, and contextual assistance.
This news comes as the smart glasses market shows early signs of growth. Research from Counterpoint Research noted a 139% year-over-year increase in the category in late 2025, largely driven by Meta’s efforts.
