On Monday, Apple confirmed its developer conference, WWDC, will take place from June 8 to 12, 2026. It’s the time of year when the company gathers developers to announce new software, hardware, and other updates to its developer tools.
The keynote is expected to take place in Cupertino, at the company’s headquarters. The conference is rumoured to centre heavily around AI. This comes two years after the company promised to deliver its own AI system, Apple Intelligence, which is yet to fully materialise. Compared with other Big Tech American companies, Apple still lags behind in AI technology, which has intensified the pressure on the company as the AI race becomes increasingly competitive.
New software announcements are also expected, including the unveiling of iOS 27. The update could become the foundation for the next generation of Apple’s AI features. Reports from Bloomberg also suggest that alongside the debut of Apple’s AI system, the company is expected to revamp Siri—something many users have been calling for over the years. Some reports have suggested the Apple AI voice assistant could be turned into a more conversational chatbot AI assistant.
There are also expectations of improvements to Apple’s operating systems to address bugs and glitches. This would help prepare devices for heavier AI workloads.
Although it is not common, Apple has occasionally released new hardware at WWDC. For instance, in 2023 the company introduced its first VR headset, the Vision Pro, at the event. However, no major hardware launches are expected this year, as Apple prepares its upcoming iPhone lineup, along with new iPads, MacBooks, and possibly a foldable device for the last quarter of the year.
WWDC will likely show how Apple plans to integrate AI across its entire ecosystem. Developers are expected to play a key role in this shift, with new tools designed to bring AI capabilities into everyday apps.
