Brad Pitt’s F1 The Movie Streams on Apple TV This December
Apple’s biggest sports drama of the year expands its reach, bringing real Formula 1 action to streaming audiences worldwide.
Brad Pitt is back on the track, this time behind the wheel of one of the year’s biggest box office stories. F1 The Movie begins streaming on Apple TV from December 12, bringing its high-speed drama from cinemas to screens at home.
The film, directed by Top Gun Maverick filmmaker Joseph Kosinski, first premiered in June and quickly found its audience. It went on to earn $629 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing sports movie ever and a major milestone for Apple Original Films.
That success wasn’t just about numbers. Critics praised its realism and scale, while audiences gave it an A CinemaScore and a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In a year crowded with superhero sequels and streaming spin-offs, F1 The Movie stood out for feeling both cinematic and grounded.
At its center is Pitt’s portrayal of Sonny Hayes, a retired Formula 1 driver who returns to mentor a young racer, played by Damson Idris. Their uneasy partnership drives a story about rivalry, redemption, and aging ambition. By filming at real F1 events with actual cars and pit crews, the movie captures the tension and adrenaline of professional racing in a way few sports films attempt.
That sense of authenticity extends to its ensemble. Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Kim Bodnia round out the cast, while Lewis Hamilton joined as a producer to ensure the racing scenes felt true to life. Their combined presence gives the film emotional weight beyond its spectacle.
The momentum even carried beyond the screen. Its companion soundtrack, F1 The Album, became a hit in its own right, selling over 650 thousand copies and surpassing 1 billion streams. Tate McRae’s single Just Keep Watching alone drew more than 4 billion short-form views across TikTok and YouTube, turning the film’s music into part of its cultural footprint.
Now the story moves into its next lap. Starting December 12, F1 The Movie will be available in more than 100 countries through Apple TV+, accessible on iPhone, MacBook, Vision Pro, and other devices. Subscription plans begin at $12.99 per month, with a free trial for new users.
