It’s not every day you see a ride-hailing service talk about lower prices, but guess what? Uber just did. Amid rising transport costs, the company is testing new features that could cut fares by up to 50%, starting in seven U.S. cities.

One of the features lets you pre-book seats on shared vehicles running fixed routes, like from your neighbourhood to the office, for ultra-low prices. Another feature freezes your fare on select routes for 30 days, while the other one offers up to 20% off when you buy rides in bundles.

Of course, the idea is to make rides more affordable, especially where every dollar counts. But when convenience comes at a price, would you trade it for a cheaper seat?
