How Hisense is Making the World’s Biggest TVs 'Affordable'
Samsung may still lead in total TV shipments, but when it comes to the 100-inch+ wall-sized screens, Hisense is untouchable.
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll notice TVs are getting bigger. These days, 70-inch TVs are standard in most living rooms.
This demand for larger screens stems from a shift in how we consume media today. Whether it’s binge-watching shows, gaming, or streaming sports, people want the biggest, most immersive screen they can get. Even smartphones have been getting larger, a reflection of the same appetite.
Not too long ago, the only massive screens you’d see were in stadiums, marketing screen boards, or at big public events. Those huge LED walls were made of stackable panels, perfect for bright light and long-distance viewing, but awful at close range. Up close, you can see the individual bulbs that light up with different colors, making it completely unsuitable for a living room setting.
Bringing that kind of scale, 100 inches and beyond, to home TV has always been a tough hill to climb, especially because the price tag is usually not justifiable. So large-format TVs existed, sure, but they were not realistic consumer options, and you’d probably only ever see them at tech events like CES, in tech blogs, or in the homes of celebrities.
But technology has moved quickly. The kind of high-quality, razor-sharp screens you’d actually want in your living room now comes in these massive dimensions. And for the first time, these displays are becoming a realistic option for people as they're now priced in a way that you don’t have to take a second mortgage.
