Nintendo has rolled out a fresh update for Mario Kart World, bringing the game to version 1.6.1. While this isn’t a content-heavy patch, it plays an important role in tightening up gameplay by addressing a couple of frustrating bugs players have encountered.
A Small Patch Focused on Stability
Unlike previous updates that introduced new modes and gameplay tweaks, version 1.6.1 is strictly about bug fixes. There are no new features, tracks, or items this time, just targeted improvements aimed at smoothing the experience across races and multiplayer sessions.
One of the key fixes tackles a gameplay inconsistency where players would sometimes fail to receive a speed boost after landing from a rail ride. This usually happens when chaining actions like a Jump Boost into a rail sequence, which should naturally reward players with extra momentum.
The update ensures that these transitions now work correctly, restoring the flow and responsiveness that competitive players rely on during races.
Multiplayer Crash Fix Across Modes
The second major fix addresses a more disruptive issue in multiplayer. In certain cases, the game could unexpectedly end when switching between TV mode and handheld or tabletop mode, particularly during sessions with three or more players.
With this patch, those transitions should now be stable, making local multiplayer more reliable whether you’re playing docked or on the go.
This smaller patch comes shortly after a more substantial update that introduced new content like the Bob-omb Blast mode and item balancing changes. Compared to that, version 1.6.1 is more of a cleanup effort, ensuring that the new systems and existing gameplay run as smoothly as possible.
