Moniepoint, the West African microfinance bank, has acquired Orda, a SaaS product that helps restaurant managers with their operations, including orders and payment, for an undisclosed sum, marking a strategic move to deepen its footprint in Nigeria’s growing food and hospitality sector. Rather than entering a new market, the deal signals Moniepoint’s intent to strengthen its role within an ecosystem it already serves, one where restaurants contribute significantly to its daily transaction volumes.

Orda’s tools, ranging from point-of-sale systems and inventory tracking to analytics and credit services, will now be folded into Moniepoint’s business management platform, Moniebook, and rebranded as “Moniebook for Restaurants." The new product will bring the different systems for orders, payments and bookkeeping into one place for restaurant operators to manage.

This could reduce the kind of manual reconciliation that has long slowed down operations for many small and mid-sized food businesses in the region.

Moniepoint acquires major stake in Kenya’s Sumac Bank
With this acquisition, it’s quietly laying the foundation to compete in East Africa’s high-stakes digital finance game.

CEO Guy Futi described Moniepoint as "the perfect home," noting that while Orda had built deep expertise in restaurant operations, it needed stronger financial infrastructure to truly expand its impact.

"To truly transform the industry, we needed to connect that expertise with comprehensive financial infrastructure," he said in a press statement to Techloy. "For our customers, we are assuring a smooth transition with no disruption to the platform and retained access to the support you are used to...Over the coming weeks, being part of Moniepoint means you'll have more tools, more reach, and more ways to grow your business than ever before."

That infrastructure is a big part of what Moniepoint brings to the table. With millions of businesses already using its payment and banking services, the company can plug Orda’s software directly into a much larger network.

CEO Tosin Eniolorunda said, "By bringing Orda into Moniepoint, we’re giving restaurant owners one simple platform to manage operations and scale their businesses, advancing our mission to create financial happiness by empowering Africans with the right tools to reach their full potential.”

Both companies come into this deal with distinct strengths. Moniepoint, founded in 2015, has built a wide-reaching financial ecosystem in Africa and, more recently, parts of Europe, spanning payments, banking, credit, and business tools. Orda, launched in 2020, focused specifically on helping restaurants digitise their operations in markets like Nigeria and Kenya. Bringing those capabilities together creates a more tightly integrated system, one that combines financial services with day-to-day operational tools.
