Nintendo has dropped the final trailer for the upcoming The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, giving fans one last look at the highly anticipated animated adventure before its April 1 cinematic release.
The trailer debuted just ahead of the annual Mario Day celebration on March 10 and reveals several new characters, major story hints, and the actors voicing key roles such as Yoshi, Wart, and Honey Queen.
Here’s what you need to know about the movie:
Yoshi, Bowser Jr., and Super Mario Bros. 2 References Appear
The new trailer highlights several fan-favourite characters from across the Mario universe.
Viewers get a first look at Yoshi in action, appearing as Mario’s loyal companion and ride during parts of the cosmic adventure. The trailer also shows Bowser Jr. joining forces with his father, Bowser, hinting at a larger villain lineup in the film.
Another surprising detail is the inclusion of elements from Super Mario Bros. 2, including the return of the classic antagonist Wart.
For long-time Nintendo fans, the references suggest the movie will draw inspiration from multiple Mario games, rather than focusing on just one storyline.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Revealed
Alongside the trailer, Nintendo confirmed the actors behind several major characters.
Yoshi will be voiced by Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino. Glover is known for roles in Community, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and The Lion King.
Wart, the villainous frog king from Super Mario Bros. 2, will be voiced by veteran actor Luis Guzmán, known for projects such as Oz, Wednesday, and films like Carlito's Way and Boogie Nights.
Honey Queen, the ruler of the Honey Hive Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy, will be voiced by Issa Rae, best known for starring in Insecure and appearing in films like Barbie and American Fiction.
With the final trailer now released, anticipation is building for the film’s cinematic release. The film appears to blend space exploration, classic Mario characters, and nostalgic references from across Nintendo’s long-running franchise.
