MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls has introduced a new playable character and team lineup, as producer Takeshi Yamanaka introduced fresh details during the Arc World Tour 2025–2026 Finals in Korea.
The latest trailer unveiled the Amazing Guardians, a team made up of next-generation heroes drawn from across the Marvel universe. Leading the group is Spider-Man (voiced by Josh Keaton), joined by Ms Marvel (voiced by Dalia Rooni), Star-Lord (voiced by Scott Porter), and the newly revealed Peni Parker (voiced by Risa Mei). According to Yamanaka, the team’s dynamic will unfold in the game’s Episode Mode, where players will explore how these very different heroes come together to face a looming threat.
Peni Parker Enters the Fight
One of the biggest highlights is the addition of Peni Parker, a Japanese-American teen genius who pilots the SP//dr mech suit created by her father. Known for her intelligence and unpredictability, Peni brings a unique playstyle into the game. In combat, she leverages gadgets, tech-based attacks, and adaptive strategies, allowing players to improvise mid-fight. Her bilingual personality also adds flavour, as she occasionally switches into Japanese during dialogue, depending on voiceover settings. The trailer also introduced a mysterious new character known as The Promoter, whose real name is Xirena Awhina. Voiced by Sabrina Fest, she is described as an Elder of the Universe, an ancient cosmic being who organizes large-scale intergalactic events. In Fighting Souls, she orchestrates a high-stakes tournament that could determine the fate of Earth, raising questions about her true intentions and whether she’s acting alone.
New Feature: Automatic Team Name Generation
A standout gameplay addition is the Automatic Team Name Generation system. Based on the characters players select, the game creates unique team names inspired by Marvel lore. These names are displayed on-screen and even announced during matches, adding personality and flair to custom team builds.
Improvements and What’s Next
Following feedback from previous closed beta tests, the development team has implemented multiple refinements to gameplay and overall experience. While full patch notes are available on the game’s Discord, the focus has been on polishing mechanics ahead of launch. Players will get another chance to try the game soon, as a new demo featuring Peni Parker will be playable at EVO Japan 2026 in Tokyo from May 1–3. The demo will include 12 playable characters and four stages, including the Knowhere arena tied to the Amazing Guardians. With new characters, evolving gameplay systems, and a growing roster, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is shaping up to be one of the more ambitious entries in the fighting game space, blending Marvel storytelling with tag-team combat and a strong focus on player creativity.
