Rivian just made interacting with its electric vehicles a lot more seamless. With the 2026.03 software update, the company has launched a dedicated Apple Watch app, letting owners manage key vehicle functions without touching their phones. From locking doors and venting windows to adjusting cabin temperature and monitoring battery charge, drivers now have a new way of control at their fingertips, or rather, on their wrists.
Until now, Rivian owners relied heavily on the iPhone app to check vehicle status and manage charging.
“A new way to connect with your Rivian is here,” the company said. “Now you can access essential features from your Apple Watch, making it possible to leave your iPhone behind on your next adventure.”
The app also lets drivers set a target charging level directly from the watch and customise up to four quick controls for the functions they use most.
The update also adds digital key support for Gen 1 vehicles, turning the watch itself into a secure access method. For later models that already use Apple Wallet passive entry, drivers can unlock their vehicles automatically when approaching. The move reflects a growing trend in connected cars: integrating vehicle control with everyday personal devices to reduce friction and make life simpler for drivers.
For everyday users, the app could change how they interact with their vehicles. “Owners can leave their phone at home (or perhaps in a glove box) and instead control some aspects of their EV using a new Apple Watch app,” Rivian said.
This shift makes routine tasks faster and easier, whether you’re walking to the car with arms full of gear or pre-checking settings before a trip.
The software update also includes practical enhancements beyond wearable integration, like Sport Mode availability across all R1 AWD models and cold-weather range indicators.
