TikTok launches tools to spotlight songwriters and their work
Songwriters can now display their music credits directly on their TikTok profiles.
TikTok has arguably become the biggest music discovery engine on the internet. Whether it’s a new artist breaking out after a 15-second hook goes viral or a major artist dropping a snippet to build hype, the platform has become a go-to launchpad for modern music careers.
But while the faces and voices of the songs often shine, the minds behind the lyrics and melodies—the songwriters—have mostly stayed in the shadows. That might start to change.
TikTok has just launched a new set of Songwriter Features aimed at giving proper credit and visibility to the people who write the music we love. For the first time, songwriters will have a dedicated “Music” tab on their profiles, highlighting the songs they’ve written or co-written.

Plus, they’ll get a special “Songwriter” label right under their account name, giving them a distinct identity within the app, similar to what artists already enjoy.
The idea is to let songwriters showcase their work just like artists do. The feature also ties into existing tools like TikTok’s #BehindTheSong campaign and “Add to Music App” functionality, which help users learn more about the stories behind their favourite tracks and save them directly to streaming platforms like SoundCloud or Spotify. Now, these new updates allow fans to connect not just with the sound but with the creators who crafted it.

Of course, there are some limitations. The features are only available in closed beta for now, with TikTok partnering with a small group of publishers and songwriters to test things out. Others can join a waitlist to get early access, but for now, it’s not open to just anyone with a pen and a melody.
Still, it’s a welcome move for songwriters looking to showcase their skills and get their work in front of more eyes (and ears). And while TikTok may have pulled the plug on its standalone music streaming app, updates like this show it’s still serious about carving out space in the broader music ecosystem. With Spotify and Tidal already offering songwriter-focused tools, TikTok’s new features let it stay in the conversation.
