VIDEO: How to embed a YouTube video in PowerPoint on Mac
Keep your presentations smooth by embedding YouTube videos directly into your slides
You’ve got the perfect clip to drive your point home, a how-to, a demo, a killer quote, and nothing kills the flow of a presentation like alt-tabbing to a browser. Embedding a YouTube video keeps that moment inside your slide, looks tidy, and keeps your audience focused.
Below, I’ll show you a simple, safe way to insert a YouTube video into a PowerPoint slide on macOS, plus quick fixes for the small headaches that sometimes pop up.
But before you start, a couple of quick notes so you don’t run into surprises. When embedding links in the slide to the online video, you need an internet connection during the presentation. Also, this method works in the current PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 on Mac (and most recent versions of PowerPoint 2016+). If your PowerPoint is very old, you might not see the exact menu labels.

How to embed a YouTube video in PowerPoint on Mac
Step 1: Open your PowerPoint deck and pick the slide
Step 2: In PowerPoint, go to the menu: Insert > Video > Online Videos… A small dialog will appear asking for the video URL
Step 3: Paste the link you want to embed into the field and press Insert. PowerPoint will create a framed video object on the slide
Step 4: Finally, select the video on the slide and check the Playback tab
Conclusion
Embedding a YouTube video in PowerPoint on Mac is fast and keeps your presentation seamless, but it’s reliant on connectivity and the video’s availability.
Use the Insert → Video → Online Videos… flow, test on the venue setup, and always have a backup. Do that and your clip will land cleanly, on cue, and with impact. Want a downloadable checklist or a short script to announce the clip during your talk? I can write one you can paste into your presenter notes.
