Nigerian music superstar Wizkid has made history once again, becoming the first African artist to surpass 10 billion total streams on Spotify.

The milestone, confirmed today, further strengthens Wizkid’s status as one of Africa’s most influential and successful musicians on the global stage. The achievement places him ahead of all other African artists in total streams across all credits on the streaming platform.

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Balogun, has built a career that spans more than a decade, with music that continues to resonate across continents. His international breakthrough came in 2016 through his appearance on Drake’s hit song “One Dance,” which remains his most-streamed track with over two billion plays on Spotify.

According to the latest figures as of January 2026, Wizkid now leads the list of Africa’s most-streamed artists on Spotify, followed closely by Burna Boy with more than 9.5 billion streams. Rema ranks third with 5.6 billion, while Tems has crossed 4.4 billion streams. South African star Tyla has reached 3.7 billion, and rising Nigerian singer Ayra Starr follows with 3.3 billion streams.

Veteran Nigerian artist Davido holds 3.2 billion streams, while Asake has accumulated 2.9 billion. CKay sits at 2.8 billion, and entrepreneur-musician Mr Eazi rounds out the top ten with 1.6 billion total streams.

The figures highlight the continued global rise of African music, with genres such as Afrobeats and Amapiano driving massive streaming growth worldwide. Industry observers note that African artists are now among Spotify’s fastest-growing and most-streamed acts, reflecting a shift in global listening habits.

Wizkid’s latest milestone adds another major chapter to a career already filled with international records, awards, and chart successes, reinforcing his position as a trailblazer in the African music industry.
