Yandex Search Integrates AI into its Global Domain
With this update, Yandex joins the group of search engines incorporating AI into their core products.
A Yandex AI feature has recently appeared on the yandex.com domain. Supposedly, Yandex has expanded the rollout of its AI-powered search, previously available only in CIS and a few other regions.
Yandex AI works similarly to Google's AI Overviews: it provides an AI-generated answer to a user's query before displaying the traditional list of links on SERP, including citations and links to the original content for reference. Interactive chat functionality is also available.
"This is a natural next step for our search product," said Alexander Popovskiy, CEO of Yandex Search International. "We have been working with neural networks in search for years, and making this functionality available to global users was an expected part of that process."
With this update, Yandex joins the group of search engines incorporating AI into their core products. Notably, while Bing and Yahoo rely on solutions powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Korea's Naver and China's Baidu remain primarily focused on their domestic markets, Yandex becomes the second globally available search engine to integrate its own AI model, following Google's AI Overviews.
