Welcome to a new year and a new era for this newsletter. My name is Dennis Da-ala Mirilla, and I joined the team in December, so you will be hearing a lot from me in your inbox.
This week, the buzz in the office and on the feed is CES (Consumer Electronics Show), the global annual trade show organised by the Consumer Technology Association of America. This year’s event will kick off on Monday, January 4, 2026, in Las Vegas, with a Samsung keynote, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store. This year at Techloy, we are particularly ready and have writers on almost every major release that will be announced next week.

2026 for Gaming

This week was all about gaming updates. Major game studios have been announcing release dates, and fans have been brewing with excitement. None more so than the announcement that GTA 6 will finally arrive in November, which Rockstar confirmed late last week. Chip and AI wars

In the chip world, it is all about Nvidia’s huge $5 billion stake in Intel, which would see it co-develop chips — a major advancement in the race for America to beat China at chip manufacturing.
Other huge deals this week included China SoftBank’s $4 billion Digital Bridge deal, Meta’s $2 billion bet on Chinese startup Manus, and finally the $20 billion Nvidia–Groq deal.
Consumer tech galore

In the gadget department, Apple has slashed its marketing budget for the Vision Pro by a whopping 95 percent. It has also cut back on manufacturing as the product fails to pick up steam. Customers are just not sure why they need it, other than the fact that Apple made it.
