10 Biggest Announcements from Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025
From major game drops to unexpected anime adaptations, this year’s showcase hit every note.
I streamed Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 yesterday straight from the official Gamescom website, and wow. Geoff Keighley did not come to play this year. The moment the show started, it was reveal after reveal, with barely a second to catch your breath.
From long-awaited sequels to full-blown surprises, it was the kind of night that reminds you why we love games, and sometimes, why we suffer waiting for them. If you missed it, here’s a full breakdown of the biggest announcements from the show.
1) Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
They kicked things off with a bang. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is jumping into the future, bringing back David Mason from Black Ops 2 and loading him up with new gadgets, high-tech warfare, and a fresh campaign. There’s a new PvE mode called “Endgame,” and yes, it’s chaotic. Milo Ventimiglia and Kiernan Shipka are joining the cast, too, and the game drops on November 14 on all platforms, day one on Xbox Game Pass.
2) LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
I wasn’t expecting to get emotional over LEGO Batman, but here we are. TT Games is cooking up a massive open-world adventure full of iconic villains like Joker and Bane, with Matt Berry lending his voice to the latter. You’ll get to cruise through Gotham in the Batmobile and take on missions solo or in 2-player local co-op. The game drops in 2026, and it looks like LEGO’s superhero formula just got a serious upgrade.
3) Hollow Knight: Silksong
After six years of delays, silence, and speculation, Silksong finally made an appearance. Geoff Keighley even said Team Cherry gave him permission to promise that the game will be out this year. A demo will be available on the Gamescom show floor later this week. If you’re even remotely a fan of the original, this is the moment we’ve all been waiting for.
4) Resident Evil: Requiem
This was one of my favourite moments of the night. Capcom gave us our first proper look at gameplay, including a haunting backstory for the protagonist, FBI agent Grace Ashcroft. Grace is clearly carrying some serious trauma, and fans won’t have to wait too long to experience it. You can switch between first and third person, which is a cool touch. There are still whispers about Leon Kennedy showing up, and honestly, it’s starting to feel very real. The release date is set for February 2027.
5) Ghost of Yōtei
This one flew a bit under the radar, but we got new gameplay footage from Sucker Punch. We’re talking snow-covered cliffs, misty forests, flaming battlefields, and serene meadows, everything we love from Ghost of Tsushima. On top of that, the game is getting a free co-op DLC called Ghost of Yōtei: Legends coming in 2026. It’s the kind of follow-up that looks like it’s going to hit just as hard as the original.
6) Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (Anime)
This has to be one of the biggest surprises of the night. Sekiro is getting a full anime adaptation, and yes, we got a full trailer. It looks beautifully animated and brutal in all the right ways. The series is coming to Crunchyroll, and it’s clear that FromSoftware fans are in for something intense and emotional.

7) Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4
Warhammer fans are eating well. Dawn of War 4 is officially on the way, coming to PC in 2026. It’s bringing back the real-time strategy chaos the series is known for, with four factions going head to head on the World of Cronus. The game has been a long time coming, and it’s looking like a big return to form.
8) Bubsy 4D
Yes, that Bubsy. The infamous platforming mascot is making a comeback in the form of Bubsy 4D, complete with fourth-wall-breaking jokes and that classic chaotic energy. Whether it turns out to be brilliant or bonkers is anyone’s guess, but it definitely got people talking.
9) Silent Hill f
Silent Hill fans were treated to more unsettling footage from Silent Hill f, which is clearly leaning into the series' creepiest elements. The new trailer had disturbing monster designs, broken radio static, and a doppelganger whispering "die" in the most chilling way. We also got a look at the English voice actress for the game’s lead, Suzie Yeung, who played Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII Remake.
10) Black Myth: Zhong Kui
The big closer for Opening Night Live was Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the next game from Game Science, developers of Black Myth: Wukong. Based on the legendary Chinese demon hunter who commands up to 80,000 spirits, this game looks visually insane. Also, he has a massive tiger companion for some reason, which is cool by the way. It’s still early in development, so no release date yet, but the crowd was all in the moment that trailer ended.
BONUS: Fallout Season 2 (TV Series)
Not a game, but still very hype. The Fallout cast and crew hit the stage to share that filming has officially wrapped. We also got our first teaser trailer and confirmation that Season 2 is heading to New Vegas. The new episodes will start rolling out on Prime Video on December 17, with one episode each week.
Conclusion
Opening Night Live 2025 delivered. From long-rumoured sequels to wild surprises like the Sekiro anime and Bubsy 4D, the energy was on point. I don’t think I’ve seen this much variety in one showcase in a long time.
And the best part? The week is just getting started. Gamescom is packed with demos, presentations, and announcements still to come. But if last night was any sign, 2025 is going to be a massive year for games.
