A significant outage at Cloudflare, a company that acts as a critical backbone for thousands of sites, is causing a cascade of failures across popular websites and apps.

The disruption began just before 7:00 AM ET, when Cloudflare first acknowledged it was investigating a major network issue. The company provides critical security and traffic management for a huge portion of the modern internet, and its problems immediately impacted other services.

Within minutes, users around the world started reporting problems. The following major platforms were affected:

  • X (formerly Twitter): Users saw blank feeds and "Something went wrong" messages.
  • Spotify: Music streaming stopped for many.
  • OpenAI & ChatGPT: The AI chatbot and related services became unresponsive.
  • Discord: The communication platform experienced connection issues.
  • League of Legends: The online game's servers encountered problems.
  • Other affected services included: Perplexity AI, Amazon, Bet365, and Canva.

Many users saw confusing "you are blocked" messages, which was a direct result of Cloudflare's systems malfunctioning.

This incident echoes a similar outage last month, when a problem at Amazon Web Services (AWS), another critical infrastructure provider, also brought down a wide range of online services for hours.

More than 11 million global users have reported being affected and scores of websites and apps have been affected.

By approximately 7:20 AM ET, Cloudflare provided an update, stating that services were beginning to recover. However, they warned that users might continue to see intermittent errors as their teams worked on a complete solution.

This remains a developing story.
