EA Sports is bringing back Fight Night, its long-dormant boxing game franchise, after 15 years away from the ring. Here's what we know about its return, from the announcement to what remains a mystery.

For years, boxing fans have been waiting for EA Sports to revive its once-beloved Fight Night franchise. Now, the company has finally given them a reason to hope for its return.

On October 20, EA launched the return of Fight Night with a simple message on its official X account: โ€œTo everyone who stayed in our corner: Fight Night is coming back.โ€

The announcement came with an image of boxing gloves hanging above an empty ring and the tagline, โ€œThe fight is never over.โ€ There was no gameplay footage, no reveal trailer, and no release date.

After more than 15 years without a new mainline entry, though, that's enough to get longtime fans talking. But what does EA have planned for the franchise, and how long will we have to wait before getting back into the ring?

ID@Xbox Showcase October 2026: 21 Games and Game Pass Dates
The ID@Xbox October 2026 Showcase revealed 21 games, including Croak, Mouthwashing, The Wolf Among Us Remastered and new Xbox Game Pass additions.

When Was the Last Fight Night Game Released?

The last mainline game was Fight Night Champion, which launched in 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. That means the series has been on the sidelines for roughly 15 years.

Fight Night first entered the ring in 2004, building a reputation for boxing that felt different from the usual button-mashing sports games. Its sequels refined the formula, with Fight Night Round 3 standing out as an early showcase for what high-definition gaming could look like on the Xbox 360.

Champion took things further with its story-driven mode, following fictional boxer Andre Bishop through the highs and lows of his career. It also pushed the series' presentation towards a grittier, more physical depiction of boxing.

Then the series went quiet.

EA shifted its attention to mixed martial arts and its UFC games, leaving Fight Night without a new instalment. The company's latest entry in that franchise, EA Sports UFC 6, arrived earlier this year.

For fans who grew up playing Fight Night, the wait has been a long one. And while other boxing games have since tried to fill the gap, none of them could bring back EA's particular take on the sport.

Is EA Making a New Fight Night Game or a Remaster?

This is where things get interesting, because EA hasn't explained exactly what it is bringing back.

The announcement confirms that Fight Night is returning, but it doesn't establish whether the project is an entirely new game, a remake of an older entry or a remaster. There is no official title beyond the Fight Night name, either.

A new mainline instalment would make the most sense, particularly after such a long break. But until EA shares more, that remains an expectation rather than a confirmed detail.

The same goes for the development team. Previous entries were handled by EA Canada and the now-closed EA Chicago studio, but EA has not identified which team is responsible for this comeback.

For now, there is no gameplay to examine, no fighter roster to pick apart, and no confirmed details about how the game will build on the mechanics that made the older titles popular.
