Running a business in Nigeria means dealing with payments, transfers, cash flow, bills, and sometimes the need for extra capital. This has made fintech platforms such as Moniepoint and OPay important to many small and medium-sized businesses. Both companies offer business accounts, POS terminals, payment collection, transfers, and other financial services, but they take slightly different approaches.

Moniepoint has built a strong position around small businesses, merchant payments, credit, and business management, while OPay combines business payments with a wider range of financial services. Moniepoint says it now serves more than 6 million active businesses and that its banking subsidiary processed ₦412 trillion in transaction value in 2025. OPay, meanwhile, says its business platform serves more than 1 million businesses across Nigeria.

With both companies competing for the same business owners, choosing between them is not simply about which app is more popular. It comes down to the tools a business needs, how it collects payments, access to credit, business management features, and the overall banking experience.

In this comparison, we look at Moniepoint and OPay to see which platform offers more value for Nigerian businesses.

Moniepoint offers free business accounts that can be opened remotely. Businesses can use the account to receive payments, send funds, pay bills, manage expenses, and access other Moniepoint business products. The company also offers USSD banking for businesses that need to access their accounts without an internet connection.
