Musk has launched an artificial intelligence (AI) company called xAI, in an attempt to stand as a direct competitor to OpenAI, Google and Anthropic, which are behind leading chatbots like ChatGPT, Bard and Claude.

This news comes after the billionaire expressed his intention to launch a rival chatbot called 'TruthGPT' in April when he took aim at the OpenAI's groundbreaking chatbot ChatGPT for being biased and pushing the “woke mind virus” in society.

According to xAI, the goal of the new company would be to "understand the true nature of the universe." Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, said in a tweet that his company would seek to “understand reality”.

Is an Elon Musk-owned ChatGPT rival coming?
Elon Musk is reportedly launching an artificial intelligence (AI) startup that will directly compete with OpenAI, the maker of the popular language model, ChatGPT. According to the Financial Times, the billionaire is putting together a team of AI researchers and engineers for the new firm and has a…

The new AI unveiled team consists of former employees from major US technology companies including OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Tesla, DeepMind and the University of Toronto, according to the company’s website.

After Musk helped to co-found OpenAI in 2015, he left the San Francisco-based startup in 2018 over what he has described as a conflict of interest related to his work on AI at electric carmaker Tesla.

This launch comes as no surprise considering the exponential growth of the AI industry, primarily fueled by the groundbreaking success of OpenAI's ChatGPT since its launch last November.

In its first month alone, ChatGPT garnered over 100 million users. Investment in AI has also skyrocketed, with Statista projecting the industry to surpass $200 billion in 2023 and becoming a trillion-dollar market by 2028.
