Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed another major round of layoffs at Bungie, marking one of the biggest restructurings in the studio's history as Destiny 2 reaches the end of its live-service roadmap and Marathon becomes the developer's primary active project.

In an internal email to employees, Sony Studio Business Group CEO Hermen Hulst said a "significant number" of Bungie employees would be laid off, including most of the Destiny team, some members of the Marathon team, and PlayStation staff who supported Bungie's operations.

Neither Sony nor Bungie disclosed how many employees were affected. But multiple reports estimate the cuts impacted around 292 workers, making it one of the studio's largest workforce reductions to date.

The announcement comes as Sony continues reshaping Bungie following its $3.6 billion acquisition in 2022 and as the wider games industry scales back investment in live-service titles.
