PlayStation's September 2026 State of Play has wrapped, and Sony had plenty to show. The showcase delivered new gameplay, release dates, DLC announcements, hardware reveals, surprise sequels, and updates for some of the biggest games coming to PS5.

The biggest announcement came at the end, with Square Enix confirming that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027. We also got release dates for Until Dawn 2 and Metro 2039, while Maneater 2 was revealed as a surprise new sequel.

Other highlights included a new Crimson Desert expansion, two limited-edition GTA 6 DualSense controllers, a major Gran Turismo 7 update, new looks at Marvel's Wolverine and Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, and several new indie games.

The main presentation was followed immediately by State of Play Japan, which brought even more announcements and extended looks at Japanese and Asian games.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Gets April 2027 Release Date

Square Enix closed State of Play with its biggest announcement: Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027, for PS5.

The game is the third and final entry in Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII remake project, and the showcase delivered around 10 minutes of new gameplay. The footage offered a much closer look at the game's expanded world, including exploration using the Highwind, chocobos, and grapple guns. Square Enix also showed off its FITS combat system and new character synergies.

With Revelation now dated for April 2027, fans finally have a launch window for the conclusion of the remake trilogy.

GTA 6 Gets Two Limited-Edition DualSense Controllers

Grand Theft Auto 6 made a surprise appearance through new PlayStation hardware rather than a new gameplay trailer.

Sony and Rockstar revealed two limited-edition DualSense controllers inspired by GTA 6: the Grand Theft Auto VI Black Limited Edition and Grand Theft Auto VI White Limited Edition.

Both controllers will launch on November 19, 2026, priced at $84.99/€84.99/£74.99. Pre-orders open on September 10 at 10 a.m. local time.

Until Dawn 2 Gets January 2027 Release Date

Firesprite showed off a new trailer for Until Dawn 2, giving fans another look at the horror sequel's highly detailed character models and terrifying situations.

The game will launch exclusively on PS5 on January 28, 2027.

The new footage puts a particular emphasis on the game's realistic facial animations, with characters visibly reacting to the horrors unfolding around them.

Metro 2039 Gets February 2027 Release Date

4A Games brought Metro 2039 to State of Play with a new gameplay trailer captured on PS5 Pro.
