If you were hoping to walk into Target and walk out with a free Pokémon promo card, there's a little more to the story than the event posters suggested.
Target's Pokémon 30th Anniversary celebration on September 27 did hand out a special Mewtwo promo card at some locations, according to attendee reports. But Target's official announcement only promised giveaways while supplies lasted, without confirming the Mewtwo card or guaranteeing it at every store.
The Target event is now over, but you still have another shot. Starting October 2, Pokémon's official Mewtwo promo card is available as a gift with purchase when you spend $15 or more on Pokémon TCG products at seven participating US retailers. Target isn't one of them.

Can you still get the Pokémon 30th Anniversary Mewtwo promo card?
Yes. Pokémon's Mewtwo promotion is tied to the Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration expansion, which launched on September 16. Starting Friday, October 2, you can get the card by spending $15 or more on Pokémon TCG products at these participating US retailers:
- GameStop
- Best Buy
- Hot Topic
- Five Below
- Barnes & Noble
- Macy's
- BoxLunch
In Canada, the participating retailer is EB Games. In Australia and New Zealand, the list includes EB Games Australia, JB Hi-Fi, BIG W, Toymate and Mr Toys.
The offer is valid in-store and online while supplies last. The Mewtwo card carries the Pokémon 30 and "What's Your Favorite?" logos. It also comes with a separate card that has a QR code linking to Pokémon's Night Out experience.
