Xiaomi is preparing to launch the Redmi K100 in China, with a 10,000mAh battery that puts it among a growing group of smartphones moving beyond the 5,000mAh capacity common in many mainstream devices.

The battery is the largest ever fitted to a Redmi phone and is one of the K100โ€™s key features. Xiaomi has confirmed that the phone will launch in China on October 27. It will also feature a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a dedicated D2 gaming chip.

Rather than following the usual flagship formula, the Redmi K100 focuses on gaming performance, smoother visuals and a large battery designed for extended use.

The 6.83-inch AMOLED display supports a 165Hz refresh rate and reaches a reported peak brightness of 3,500 nits. Xiaomi says the phone natively supports 165fps in more than 40 games, while over 100 additional games support frame interpolation.

That could make gameplay look smoother, although the actual frame rate will depend on each game's support and performance requirements.

The phone runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite, a processor introduced in 2024. While it's no longer Qualcomm's newest flagship chip, it remains a powerful option for demanding games and multitasking.

Xiaomi has also included a dedicated D2 gaming chip, which is designed to improve gaming performance through features such as frame generation and image upscaling. The company says the combination can improve power efficiency during supported games.

But the battery is the headline feature. The Redmi K100 packs a 10,000mAh battery, the largest ever in a Redmi phone. Reports also point to 100W fast charging, although buyers should check the final charging specifications at launch.

The phone runs HyperOS 4 and features dual speakers tuned in collaboration with Bose. Xiaomi has also shown the device in a Firefly Green colour option.

How it compares with the competition

The Redmi K100 joins the K100 Pro and K100 Pro Max, which were introduced earlier in China. The standard model takes a different approach, prioritising battery capacity and gaming features rather than simply chasing the newest processor.

Its 10,000mAh battery is particularly notable in a market where many premium smartphones still have considerably smaller batteries. The extra capacity could benefit people who spend hours gaming, stream video frequently or want to go longer between charges.
