Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025: The Biggest Announcements

Meet the new Fold, a new Flip and a new AI health coach.

by Louis Eriakha Ogbonda Chivumnovu Oluwaseun Bamisile

If you follow Samsung’s tech drops, you know Galaxy Unpacked is the brand’s main event, the place where its most ambitious devices make their debut. And this year, whether you're eyeing a powerful foldable phone or a smarter fitness companion, there's plenty to unpack.

Not every phone is built for multitaskers on the move, and not every watch understands your body’s rhythms. That’s why Samsung’s 2025 lineup leans hard into versatility, from ultra-premium hardware in the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to what may be its first budget-friendly foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. And on your wrist? A new generation of Galaxy Watches is aiming to outpace Apple’s health tracking edge.

Here’s everything you need to know from the big reveals, no fluff, just the standout updates and what they mean for your daily life.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked July 2025: What to Expect and How to Watch
The July Unpacked edition is taking us on a folding spree and more.

Samsung’s foldables have been inching forward year after year, but this year, we see some serious refinements.

First thing you notice: it’s thinner. Folded, it’s down to 8.9mm from the Fold 6’s 12.1mm, so it feels noticeably slimmer in your hand or pocket. It’s also lighter at 215g, making it the lightest Fold yet.

The cover screen is still 6.5 inches, but now it stretches almost completely across the front with barely any bezel, and finally runs at 120Hz. That change alone makes it feel more like a proper phone when closed, not just a placeholder. Open it up, and the main display is now 8.0 inches, a little bigger than before, and powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chip — so you’re getting more screen and more power at the same time.

There are changes under the hood too. The new Armour FlexHinge uses a multi-rail system with a water-drop fold, which makes the crease less obvious and the motion smoother. Samsung also added a titanium plate and a thicker Ultra-Thin Glass layer behind the screen. The improvements don’t scream at you, but they add up. The device feels sturdier without feeling heavier.

On the outside, the cover screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, and the frame now uses Advanced Armour Aluminum, which Samsung says is 10% stronger than last year’s version. You probably won’t notice that on day one, but over time, it could make a difference.

The camera’s where things get bold — a 200MP main sensor now sits on the back, pushing the Fold 7 closer to full-on flagship territory alongside the Ultra devices

But, yeah, it’s pricier. The Fold 7 starts at $1,999, up $100 from last year. It comes in silver, black, and blue, with a mint color if you buy directly from Samsung. Preorders are up now, and it ships July 25.

2. Galaxy Z Flip 7: More Than Just a Fold

Meanwhile, Samsung’s Z Flip 7 also marks a real leap for clam shell like foldables. The cover screen now stretches to 4.1 inches, giving you full access to apps, notifications, and even Gemini, Google’s AI, without unfolding the phone. It’s smarter, faster, and far more practical.

Inside, the 6.9-inch foldable display is brighter and smoother, paired with the new Exynos 2500 chip, 12GB RAM, and up to 512GB storage. A bigger 4,300 mAh battery powers everything, with improved fast charging to match. AI features are baked in throughout, from real-time camera framing in Flex Mode to contextual summaries via “Now Brief” and hands-free voice tasks using Gemini.

If you want the foldable experience at a lower price, Samsung’s introducing a Flip 7 FE at $900. It pares back specs slightly but retains core features, though it's limited to just black and white colour options.

The standard Flip 7, meanwhile, comes in Jet Black, Blue Shadow, Coral Red, and Mint, and starts at $1,100. Pre-orders are live now, with devices shipping July 25.

3. Galaxy Watch 8: AI on Your Wrist

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 8 is the first smartwatch to ship with Gemini built in, turning it into more than a tracker — it’s a full-blown assistant. You can ask for updates, compose messages, or check your schedule right from your wrist, no phone required.

New health sensors, including antioxidant tracking, add deeper insights to sleep and fitness data, now personalised with on-device AI. The Watch 8 also gets a more compact design, and the Classic model brings back the rotating bezel for tactile control. Starting at $399, the Watch 8 ships July 25, aiming to set a new bar for what a smartwatch can actually do.

4. Even More Galaxy AI

One of the most talked-about parts of the event was, unsurprisingly, AI. Samsung says its goal is to deliver a seamless AI experience across Galaxy devices, which is why it teamed up with Google to preload all the new devices with One UI 8, powered by Android 16.

This means users get access to the latest Gemini features out of the box, including Circle to Search, Gemini Live, and more. These services also pair with Samsung's native apps like Samsung Notes and Samsung Calendar, allowing you to use Gemini to take action in apps.

With Circle to Search in games, you can search for something visually and immediately follow up with complex questions using Google Search’s AI mode. Buyers of the new Fold or Flip will also receive a six-month trial of Gemini AI Pro at no extra cost.

But Samsung isn’t just relying on Google. Its own Galaxy AI is getting smarter and more personalised. It can now tailor suggestions based on your behaviour, like recommending Spotify tracks or YouTube videos based on your routine, and even help you remember things, such as completing forms for an upcoming flight. Samsung says the idea is to make your phone feel more like it knows you.

Naturally, this raises privacy questions, which Samsung addressed with a new upgrade to its Knox Security platform. It’s called KEEP (Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection), and it’s a security framework designed to isolate and encrypt AI-powered data on-device. Apps only get access to what they need, and most AI processes happen locally, not in the cloud.

That means features like note summaries and text suggestions work without sending your data off-device. Samsung also introduced Audio Eraser, a tool that can identify up to six types of background noise and isolate your voice, useful for voice memos, call recordings, or even notes recorded in noisy environments.

Conclusion

Galaxy Unpacked 2025 was pretty much what we expected — slimmer bezels, sleeker phones, and a healthy dose of AI. We didn’t hear much about side projects like the Galaxy Tab or Project Moohan, and the dropped S Pen compatibility on the Fold will be a real bummer for many. Still, the updates across the board are arguably making the Fold, Flip, and Watch series feel less like niche experiments and more like everyday devices.

Whether you’re eyeing a powerful upgrade or just curious about where mobile tech is headed, this year’s lineup points to a future that’s thinner, faster, and just a bit smarter.
