Silksong announced to cost only $20
Team Cherry’s decision to keep Silksong at such a low price shows confidence in the game’s quality and respect for its audience.
In my previous story on Hollow Knight: Silksong, I compared it to the GTA 6 of the indie world. The hype, the cult-like fanbase, the endlessly delayed release date, the legacy of its beloved predecessor, and the way its launch window seems to scare off competing indie releases all make the comparison feel spot on.
With that in mind, I genuinely thought the developers, Team Cherry, could price Silksong as high as $100, and a lot of gamers, myself included, would still hand over the money. Instead, Team Cherry surprised everyone by setting the launch price at just $19.99 in the US, €19.99 in Europe, and ¥2300 in Japan.
That is only $5 more than the original Hollow Knight cost when it released back in 2017. In the UK, leaks suggested £16.75, but it is more likely the price will land closer to £20. And let's not forget the fact that the game will also be released day one on Xbox Game Pass.
Four days until release! Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available on 4th September.

In an industry where AAA studios now regularly push $70 and sometimes more (cough, The Outer Worlds 2 and Mario Kart World), Silksong’s price point feels almost symbolic. Team Cherry is making it clear that ambitious design and fair pricing can still go hand in hand.
The announcement comes on the heels of some big milestones for the original game. The original Hollow Knight recently crossed 15 million copies sold, a staggering figure for an indie title.
Even more impressive, it has been surging in popularity eight years later, setting new all-time highs on Steam with over 70,000 concurrent players just this past weekend. That kind of staying power explains why Silksong has become the most wishlisted game on Steam, far outpacing many mainstream releases.

Players also now know exactly when they can jump in. Team Cherry confirmed Silksong will be playable starting at 7 a.m. PT, 10 a.m. ET, 4 p.m. CEST, and 11 p.m. JST on September 4.
One thing you will not see, however, is pre-orders. Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry’s marketing and PR lead, confirmed in the official Discord that no pre-orders will be offered. Given how close release day is, most fans will be happy just to finally dive in rather than worry about bonuses.
Team Cherry’s decision to keep Silksong at such a low price is refreshing. It shows confidence in the game’s quality and respect for its audience. While the industry at large keeps testing how high prices can climb, Silksong stands out as proof that a game can be one of the most anticipated titles of its generation without demanding a premium cost.
