Despite years of insisting it's not a social media platform, Snapchat is still viewed as one by many people. And the company doesn't exactly help its case. It keeps rolling out features that feel increasingly social media-like, making its argument seem a little contradictory.
Now it's doing it again with a feature that looks a lot like something you'd expect from a social app: Snapchat Plans. The new tool lets users create events, send invitations, and track RSVPs—all inside Snapchat.
Some are already speculating that Snap is taking direct aim at Partiful, the invite app that has become Gen Z's go-to platform for organising hangouts.

What Snapchat Plans actually does
Users can create a Snapchat Plan by adding a title, choosing a date and time, and inviting up to 200 friends. Invitations are delivered directly through one-on-one chats with each invited friend.
Guests can RSVP with Going, Maybe, or Can't Go. Hosts can see who's attending, invite more friends, and update event details at any time. Guests can also view the full guest list and receive a reminder one hour before the event starts.
Snapchat has also added a My Plans section to user profiles, where users can browse their current, upcoming, and past events. To make invitations more personal, Plans includes dynamic Bitmoji-powered cover art that updates automatically as the event comes together.
How to use Snapchat Plans
Creating a Plan is fairly straightforward. Open Snapchat and create a new Plan by adding an event title, date and time, then choose the friends you want to invite. You can invite up to 200 people and customise the event with Bitmoji-powered cover art.
Once the invitations are sent, guests can choose Going, Maybe, or Can't Go directly from the chat. Hosts can then see who's attending, add more friends or change the event details. Guests can also return to the Plan later to check the guest list or update their RSVP.
