U.S. Embassy Ghana has added more than 1,000 non-immigrant visa appointment slots for Ghanaians, despite tightening U.S. travel restrictions globally.

On February 17, in a post on X, the U.S. Embassy Ghana announced on its official page that Ghanaian citizens can now apply for B1/B2 visas, with over 1,000 slots available for those looking to visit the United States for a short trip.

To put this in context, the B1/B2 visa allows short-term travel to the U.S. for business, tourism, or medical treatment, usually for up to 180 days per visit.

In its post, the embassy stated, “In case you hadn’t heard the news, Embassy Accra has Non-Immigrant Visa Appointments available now! There are more than 1,000 B1/B2 visa appointment slots available in the next week; one of those could be yours.”

This announcement comes at a time when U.S. visa policies and immigration rules are becoming stricter, with the Trump administration suspending visa processing for 27 countries, including Ghana, and imposing a proposed visa bond of up to $15,000 on several other countries.

With Ghana excluded from the group of 38 countries facing the $15,000 visa bond, applicants can take advantage of the expanded appointment availability by scheduling interviews through the U.S. government’s official visa portal.

For global talent looking to book an appointment, attend their interview, or reschedule an existing one, they can now do so earlier than planned due to the additional slots made available.

As explained by the embassy, “If you’ve been planning to apply for a U.S. visa, this is a great time to schedule your interview. Book a new appointment or move up one scheduled for later in the year. We want to interview you now.”

This push for applicants comes even as the U.S. maintains that its current visa sanctions remain in force, noting that exemptions will be limited and only considered for applicants who successfully pass public-charge and eligibility reviews.
